About
Butterfly ID is a free iPhone app for identifying butterflies in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany. Take a photo or pick one from your library, and an AI model that runs on the phone suggests the species, shows its confidence and lists likely alternatives. Location and season are used as context, so suggestions fit where and when you found the butterfly.
Download a country pack once and the app works without mobile coverage. The built-in field guide has photos, identifying features, flight periods, habitats and similar species for every butterfly, so you can check a suggestion yourself. You can also see which species have been recorded nearby and save confirmed sightings to your own collection.
The app and field guide are available in English, Danish, German, Norwegian and Swedish. A web version lets you identify a photo from your computer. Butterfly ID is made for nature lovers, families, photographers and anyone curious about the butterflies around them.
